The only way to drink Coffee
Living in the snowy mountains, there is nothing better than waking up to the aroma of a fresh cup of good quality coffee. Before I head out for a day of exploration, I’m sure to make myself a coffee that will give me sustained energy. The last thing I want is to have a caffein crash in the backcountry.
A regular, run of the mill, cup of joe can cause a caffeine high, followed by a crash and sometimes even jitteriness and anxiety. The negative side effects associated with coffee are not caused by the bean itself but by the technique in which it is processed. Poor processing can expose the bean to moulds and bacteria. A good quality, organic coffee will not contain the high level of mycotoxins which cause negative effects on the body. Instead, good coffee is high in antioxidants. Now that we’ve discussed the first part of a great coffee, let’s talk about how we can take that caffeine high, sustain it, and avoid the crash.
Bulletproof coffee is a good quality cup of coffee (brewed using a French press or brewed using un bleached filter) with added coconut oil and high quality butter. Yep. Butter. Good quality fats are NOTHING to be afraid of. Fats are essential to weight loss, believe it or not. Fats create the structural components of cell membranes around the brain and myelin around our nerves which help send messages faster. This is a cup of coffee that tastes and smells great, sustains energy and helps with brain function. The added fats slow the absorption of caffeine, making the ride more equally sustained.
Now for the technique…
2 cups good quality coffee
2 tbsp organic, grass fed butter
1 tbsp organic coconut oil
Pre-warm blender using boiling water that will be removed. Place all ingredients in the warmed blender and blend on high until frothy. Enjoy your delicious, healthy coffee to fuel you for a high performance day!
